GENERAL STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Subject to the “Important Information” above and contained herein and below, many different exploitation rights are available in varying territories or types of product. We respectfully suggest you check each type of exploitation rights and territories you are interested in with us in advance and in writing.
Audio Rights
Many of the Audio titles in any of our catalogues have been digitally re-mastered or restored from the original analogue recordings using state of the art technology and our own in-house studios. It should therefore be noted that where imperfections exist in the original sound recordings, they have been removed or improved on insofar as their removal or improvement will not cause a loss in the sound and quality of the music. We believe that these small imperfections will not denigrate from your listening pleasure. Some of these recordings were originally recorded during varying periods and could date back to the early 1940s or 50s/60s/70s and 80s and 90s as well as product recorded in the last decade.
Therefore, in the recordings the technology used to record same is not as coherent as todays technology as its always improving. Imperfections will exist, and our master’s are only as good as the original ones they were recorded from or to. We suggest you ask for a listening copy to see if it meets with your expectations.
Our prime motive is to preserve the original performances and the feel that the artists and musicians created. Many of these recordings featured in this catalogue were made before the benefits of digital recording facilities were known. As a statement of purpose, we feel that these masters, in some cases, mono recordings, many of them made many years ago, have been transferred painstakingly and as carefully as contemporary technology will allow.
Visual Rights
In the majority of cases the visual content, that originated the various Film, Concert, TV programmes, and /or general programming that may be featured in this catalogue were originally recorded/shot during varying periods which could go back as far as the 1960s, 70s and 80s and 90s as well as product recorded in the last decade. The original visual footage may have been originated on either 16mm film or 35 mm film and or on video tape in some cases, when standard transmission was used in Europe and or in the USA or elsewhere in the World (known as Standard definition (SD)). As a result, the quality as we know it today may not be commensurate with today’s high standards of HD and may not pass the stringent broadcasting tests of today’s broadcast requirements.
We have in some cases, digitally re-mastered from the original source which was 16mm or 35mm film, therefore some imperfections will still exist due to the original film not being perfect in the first place. Some of the masters were recorded on 1” or 2” video *PAL or in some cases recorded in the USA on *NTSC 525 lines tapes or on betacam or other mastering sources as technology improved. In the majority of cases we have the original Master tape source material, however this could be expensive to convert to digital format of today’s high standards due to the costs of transferring and finding the older machines or capability to transfer. We are/may be able in some cases with the exception of the celluloid sources (which are true HD) take the masters and have the ability to be up-ressed to HD 1080 23.98 progressive. We have used this process previously with satisfactory results and have in cases gone back to the film and achieved really good results and created HD
type masters, by utilising the Alchemist Ph.C –HD process and converted the aspect ratio from 4:3, to a 16:9 frame. This is a costly process and the cost of same should be discussed in advance. Some of the other “Special Interest” and “General or TV programming was shot mainly for DVD exploitation and may not pass the stringent broadcasting tests of today’s television/ broadcast requirements.
We apologise in advance for the quality of some of the viewing copies that we have available as these may have been taken from film and tape copies themselves the quality may be poorer than expected. However, these should be seen as viewing copies only and are not representative of the final master quality. In all cases the quality is only as good as the original master and, in some instances, imperfections exist in the original and this quality is reflected due to the age of the film/master. Our prime motive is to preserve the original performances and the feel that the artists created in the performance.
In addition, through various associates, we have access to additional material that you may be interested in, so if a particular artist or title you require is not listed in this catalogue then we are likely to be still able to trace if for you, subject to license and availability.
